Thousands of "New" Species Are Being Found Each Year in Rainforests

Knowledge about the world's quickly disappearing rainforests is just beginning to unfold for civilized humans. Scientists have been researching rainforests for more than a hundred years but only in the last couple of decades has there been a focused effort to discover what these forests have to show us.

Some scientists suggest that there may be as many as a billion species currenlty living as part of our planet Earth. This is almost 100 times the number suggested by some more conservative estimates.

In the links below or to the right you will find a few examples of newly discovered rainforest species. This is by no means a complete sampling but is merely to show how little we currently know.
