 | Orangutans are threated with extinction due mostly to illegal logging in Indonesia. | |

As of last night, both Williams-Sonoma (owners of Pottery Barn) and Restoration Hardware have begun talks with Rainforest Relief regarding the sales of outdoor funrniture (and other products) made of wood from endangered forests.
One of the largest single uses of hardwoods logged from Earth's dwindling rainforests is for outdoor furniture. The history of the garden bench is a history of naval conquest, colonization and rainforest destruction. That history continues today as numerous woods are now being exploited for garden and site furniture.
Rainforest Relief is the only group in the US opposing the sales of garden and stie furniture made from rainforest hardwoods.
Numerous companies are now retailing furniture made of nyatoh, following Restoration Hardware's lead. This is a potentially disastrous situation as increasing demand for this wood has driving more logging in Indonesia's dwindling rainforests, wiping out the last remaining habitat of orangutans, hornbills and other highly endangered wildlife.
