Thank you to those who participated in the first Nyatoh Day of Action for Orangutans. We made a real statement to a number of companies that people are not going to stand by while they continue to sell furniture ripped from the last remaining orangutan habitat in the world.
Things went very well in a number of places: security was called, police were called, activists were told to leave, flyers were placed on furniture and many people were alerted to the destruction going on for lawn furniture.
Actions occurred in Syracuse, NY; New York City; Richmond Heights, MO; Millville, NJ; Toms River, NJ, Asheville, NC; Berkeley, CA and Portland, OR. The actions in Syracuse and NYC each included three stores and the one in Berkeley included two, so activists doubled and tripled their effectiveness. The strategy of picking all six companies for the Day of Action paid off.
We'll be checking in with the various companies during the coming weeks to gage their reactions to the demos (or perhaps they'll get in touch). After that, We'll inform folks as to ideas for the next round and for the summer.
