Yesterday, Rainforest Relief received notification from Linens 'N' Things (LNT) that the company has not puchased and will not purchase nyatoh outdoor furniture for 2006 or 2007.

Rainforest Relief first notified LNT of our intent to campaign against their sales of nyatoh furniture in June of last year. After repeated messages went unanswered, we placed a feature about LNT on our website, notifying the public of LNT's participation in the destruction of the rainforests of Indonesia.

LNT responded to our next call and asked for a letter outlining our position, which we sent on August 1st of this year. Our letter included two photographs, one of a nyatoh furniture set taken in the Jersey City, NJ store, and the other from LNT's own website.

The response, received last week, came from Denise Tolles, VP of Legal Services and General Attorney for LNT. The letter states that the items pictured "are clearance items. Our furniture buyer assures me that Linens 'N Things has purchased no furniture manufactured from nyatoh for 2006 or 2007 and has no plans to purchase any." The letter concludes, "Thank you for bringing this important work to our attention."

Please email Linens 'N' Things that you appreciate their favorable response to our campaign request and ask them to continue to work with Rainforest Relief to create a wood purchasing policy to avoid all wood from endangered forests.
