In another victory for Indonesia's dwindling rainforests, Kmart announced to Rainforest Relief that the Martha Stewart outdoor furniture lines will no longer use nyatoh, a wood logged from the old growth rainforests of Indonesia and Malaysia.
Rainforest Relief first contacted Sears Holdings, owner of Kmart, in July, after highlighting on our website the Martha Stewart "Sierra Vista" line and others made of nyatoh. After some discussion, Sears Holdings checked the information we sent about illegal logging and the destruciton of rainforests and then announced that Martha Stewart will be phasing out of nyatoh for outdoor furniture sold through Kmart.
This is an important victory in our on-going campaign to end the imports of nyatoh and other woods logged from primary rainforests, used in outdoor garden furniture.
Send a message to Kmart thanking them for their decision to avoid the destruction of rainforests for patio furniture.
Other companies continue to sell outdoor furniture made with wood logged from old growth rainforests, such as Wal-mart, Sears, Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware and others.
Help us stop this senseless destruciton of rainforests by joining Rainforest Relief and joining our outdoor furniture campaign. You can help by handing out flyers in front of one of the above stores, organizing actions and contacting store managers. Contact us today to help.
You can also help with a donation to Rainforest Relief.
