One of the largest uses of rainforest woods in the US is for construction and renovations of waterfront developments, such as coastal boardwalks, bulkheads, piers, docks, pilings, marinas, etc.

Rainforest Relief has embarked on a proactive project to educate those involved in designing and selecting materials for waterfront redevelopment or renovations across the US. With support from the Unity Foundation, our National Waterfronts Project was designed to educate people involved in deciding what material(s) to use for waterfronts, to let them know what’s wrong with using rainforest woods for waterfront construction and renovatoins and why they should instead use alternatives such as recycled plastic lumber.

We have developed a brochure/poster that highlights the problems with logging in the tropics for woods typically used in waterfronts, as well as why recycled plastic lumber and other alternatives make more sense, economically, socially and environmentally. To download the brochure, click here.

We now need funds to create a database of landscape architects, waterfront designers, and elected officials, engineers and public works directors in waterfront cities and towns. Then we need the funds to distribute the brochure to these people and follow up by phone and email.

Please help support this critical project.
