Municipal and State Rainforest Wood Selective Purchasing Regulations
Rainforest Relief encourages the passage of resolutions, ordinances and laws regulating the imports and use of wood logged from tropical forests and temperate rainforests.
We've fought for passage of such requirements in many places, from Long Beach, California to Greenport, New York, to Miam Beach, Florida. We've been successful in many cases but in other places, we're still in the fight. We need your help.
Regulations such as these are powerful statements, denying the purveyors of illegal and unsustainable rainforest woods the caché and income they need to promote their products.
Not only are municipalities often large buyers of rainforest wood products, passage of a resolution sends a strong message to the people living in the city or town that this is an issue important enough for their local government to consider acting on it.
For a list of some of the towns and cities we've succeeded in getting measures passed, see our News section on some of the more recent victories.
If you would like to help pass a resolution in your town or city, check out our sample ordinance and a list of measures that have passed by other governments in the US, then contact us.
