Rainforest Relief received notification by email today that Benpa Yapi Malzemeleri Dis Tic, Ltd., a plywood manufacturing company in Turkey, did not and will not source tropical woods for manufacturing plywood.

Benpa Yapi had been in touch with us via email seeking to source hardwood plywood or timber from Malaysia or Indonesia to increase the range of plywood they sell. We wrote them back expressing our dismay with their proposed sales of these materials. We never heard back but put them up on our site as a campaign.

Emails generated from the action alert plus their being listed on our site (our guess is that a search on their company name brought up our site before theirs) seems to have prompted Benpa Yapi to drop their plans of importing plywood or woods from Indonesia and/or Malaysia.

We are awaiting final confirmation from the company that they will pledge to forego the purchase/sales of tropical plywood or other woods from endangered tropical forests.

Thanks to everyone who wrote to this company and thanks once again to Ed Mullen and Robb Smiley who gave Rainforest Relief the power of the web to influence companies across the world.
