San Diego, CA
Working along with Action Resource Center, based in Los Angeles, and a representative of Rainforest Information Centre, also in LA, plus support from the local Sierra Club chapter, the groups opposed the use of tropical hardwoods for a new marina being built on City-owned land as part of a Marriott hotel complex.
After numerous meetings and speaking out at the public meeting for the design committee decision, the groups arrived at an agreement with San Diego and the marina builder that included San Diego not using tropical hardwoods in the future. As it turned out, the marina builder was Atlantic-Meeco, the largest marina builder in the world.
